Job title: Artistic Director/Conductor Chorus/organization name: Tucson Masterworks Chorale Category: Artistic The Artistic Director provides the artistic vision for the Chorale. He or she is responsible for the leadership and direction of every aspect of performances for the Chorale and, if applicable, guest soloists and orchestra. This position reports to the Board of Directors. Artistic Management • Chooses appropriate repertoire and concert venues within the approved budget • Conducts regular Monday evening rehearsals (7:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.), two Saturday rehearsals, and one dress rehearsal per concert cycle • Selects and prepares guest soloists and orchestra • Prepares scores and markings for the chorus, orchestra, and soloists • Conducts TMC in performance • Supervises all recording activities • Provides program notes for each concert • Approves, with the Board of Directors, content of the concert program and concert publicity Board Involvement • Attends monthly Board meetings • Presents monthly reports to the Board • Participates in fundraising and marketing activities Public Relations • Serves as a key spokesperson for the organization • Participates in community activities that further the mission of the Chorale • Represents the Chorale in media appearances • Participates in musical and professional organizations locally and nationally • Collaborates with the Board in developing marketing campaigns and publicity for the Chorale Financial Management • Develops a yearly comprehensive artistic plan in collaboration with the Board, which provides the basis for the annual budget • Follows the approved annual budget • Collaborates in the preparation of grant applications Requirements: The successful candidate will possess: • Excellent conducting and communication skills • Master of Music or the equivalent in experience • An extensive knowledge of choral-orchestral repertoire • The ability to bring out the best in amateur singers • Excellent recruiting skill • Experience working with non-profit organizations and with an active Board of Directors • Knowledge of the voice and vocal pedagogy • Ability to prepare and conduct an orchestra Compensation: TBA Benefits: This is a non-benefit part-time (approximately 10 hours per week) contract position. Chorus/organization description: Tucson Masterworks Chorale, a 90-member community chorus that performs the great masterworks of the choral repertoire, seeks an Artistic Director/Conductor for the 2008/2009 season. The Chorale, now in our 59th season, generally produces two or three concerts per year, and is also involved in outreach activities in the greater Tucson area.
