Job title: Part Time Choral Artist Chorus/organization name: Metropolitan Opera Guild Urban Voices Boston Area Category: Artistic URBAN VOICES: A Choral Music Initiative a program of The Metropolitan Opera Guild Seeks Part-time Choral Artists to Work in Boston / Worcester Area Schools The Metropolitan Opera Guild (MOG) is recruiting choral/vocal music educators to work in the Boston and greater Boston-area schools for the 2008-2009 school year. The Urban Voices: a Choral Music Initiative program provides affordable high-quality vocal/ choral music education to over 2,500 students each year. The program started in 1993 with the support of the Vivendi Universal Fund, and provided music programs to elementary schools throughout the New York City and Boston Public School systems. Each school chosen to participate in the program receives the services of a professional Choral Artist for one full day (or the equivalent of 6 hours) per week throughout the entire school year. Choral Artists lead students in choral/vocal music instruction in collaboration with classroom and general music teachers. The program culminates with an end of the year performance. As part of the program, MOG provides professional development opportunities to Urban Voices choral artists and school-based music and classroom teachers. Job Description: Choral Artist: Responsibilities: * Provide choral music instruction one full day (or the equivalent of 6 hours a week); * Partner/ Collaboration with a classroom or music teacher; * Work with school staff to integrate the choral music program with other school activities * Select music to be rehearsed and performed (Prepare, practice, perform); * Prepare participating students for culminating performance; * Attend professional development events and programmatic meetings. Qualifications: * Extensive background in choral music education; * Experience working with elementary and/or secondary children; * Strong organizational skills; * Experience/willingness to work in an inner-city school setting is strongly desired; * Knowledge of working within a Public School system.
