CHORUS MANAGER
ORGANIZATION: The Philadelphia Singers
The Philadelphia Singers (TPS), Philadelphia’s premier professional chorus and The Resident Chorus of The Philadelphia Orchestra seeks a part-time Chorus Manager to oversee all artistic personnel including all non-musical aspects of the ensemble’s concert and rehearsal production, conforming to the terms of TPS’ collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA).
The Chorus Manager facilitates communication between The Philadelphia Singers’ administration, membership and (AGMA). In this capacity, the Chorus Manager is responsible for maintaining a 250+ personnel database of professional and volunteer singers and contracting all singers for The Philadelphia Singers’ subscription concerts, performances with The Philadelphia Orchestra and additional performance opportunities. This individual also hires accompanists, soloists and instrumental ensembles (as needed) for all auditions, rehearsals and performances. The Chorus Manager also submits the payroll for all concert engagements and prepares personnel reports for AGMA.
Essential Functions:
• Attend all chorus services including all rehearsals and performances
• Obtain all rehearsal venues and coordinate venue preparation prior to the start of rehearsals
• Ensure that all rehearsal venues, procedures and rehearsal periods are compliant with the requirements of the CBA with AGMA
• Monitor and track attendance at all chorus services including any late arrivals and unexcused absences and initiate disciplinary action as required by the CBA
• Communicate frequently with the chorus, informing them of performance opportunities, special events and changes or new information pertaining to the rehearsal and performance schedules
• Coordinate with the Music Librarian to ensure the proper delivery and marking of scores
• Serve as primary liaison with AGMA and its local delegates at rehearsals and as needed
• Prepare budget estimates for contracted services including engagements with The Philadelphia Orchestra and occasionally for subscription concerts
• Assist in devising and implementing recruitment efforts for new professional and volunteer singers
• Coordinate all aspects of annual auditions including securing the venue and accompanist, publicity, sending out re-audition notices and processing all audition files and applications for new singers
• Attend board meetings, special events and fundraisers as requested
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Must be able to attend rehearsals and performances that occur in the evenings and on the weekends
• Proficient in Excel, Access, Word and Outlook
• Minimum 2 years experience in arts management or engagement management/booking preferred, chorus management experience a plus
• Familiarity with artists’ contracts and collective bargaining agreements preferred but not required.
