2011 Education Outreach Award

Chorus America believes music plays an important role in every student’s development. Music education in general and singing in particular not only foster appreciation of choral music, but also build connections between and among diverse people. Music education and singing enhance overall academic achievement, stimulate creativity, and lay the foundation for a lifetime of musical enjoyment.

Successful education outreach programs often demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Collaborations and ongoing partnerships with other ensembles, schools, and community organizations
  • Organized efforts to reach their own communities and surrounding areas to attract new constituencies
  • Clearly articulated goals, outcomes, and tools for evaluation
  • An ongoing commitment to educational outreach

-from Chorus America Education Outreach Vision Statement

To continue Chorus America’s commitments to both encouraging and developing education outreach programs and to identifying best practices, the Education Outreach Award is presented on a rotating basis in the following categories: best emerging program no more than four years in operation (2011), best collaborative program (2012), best program by a chorus with a budget under $200,000 (2013), and best program by a chorus with a budget over $200,000 (2014).
